My passion for jewellery started at a young age when I bought my first ‘diamond’ ring from Woolworths with my very own pocket money. Some years later I found myself studying jewellery making at Epsom School of Art, before gaining a Masters degree from the Royal College of Art in London.
On graduating I set up a workshop in the converted coal cellar of my home in Surrey, exhibiting and running Craft exhibitions. At this time I started teaching adult education evening classes at SCOLA in Sutton, igniting a lifetime’s enthusiasm for teaching,.
For a number of years I ran the Grace Barrand Design Centre in Surrey, in addition to teaching in the evening. However, in 2009 I decided to concentrate on developing my jewellery business, and built a workshop where I could work and also run classes.I now work mainly to commission on bespoke jewellery, and particularly enjoy the up-cycling of old unloved jewellery for clients. To present them with new designs that can be be worn and enjoyed again is a joy!My studio is purpose built and fully equipped, with bench space for up to six students, enabling me to run classes and workshops, while providing personalised tuition and guidance within a small group setting. Over the years the classes have become increasingly popular, as many people now value the chance to learn a new skill, for their own satisfaction and mental well being.
The workshop sessions cater for anyone who has ever aspired to create their own jewellery – from basic techniques for complete beginners to working with silver, gold and semi-precious stones, beading and up-cycling old, unloved jewellery.
If you share my passion for jewellery making, or think you’d just like to have a go at making your own jewellery, then why not come along to my workshop and give it a try?
